100’s of Marijuana stores in California open to the public

Californians understand how to capitalize on opportunity and make up the world’s 5th largest economy (per several articles published in the past 5 years). “Pot” smokers now have found the career of their life, the operation of a Medical Marijuana store. Over the past 5-10 years, voters in California passed several open-ended laws that allow any California resident the ability to purchase and possess the drug Cannabis. Things have gotten out of control and most California residents have no idea these “pot stores” exist a few miles from where they live. Finally, the DEA has stepped in with Federal law to put a stop to some of the most popular stores entrepreneurial ambitions.

These pot stores operate online sites with menus, pictures, even “specials” of the day. An example of a site advertised on a popular portal “Weedtracker.com” is “The PCH Collective“.

What is the solution for the long-term here in California? Why do so many people need to smoke pot with so much opportunity around them?

Moratorium Sought on New Pot Clinics

Patrick McGreevy
January 16, 2007
Los Angeles Times

Concerned by a 2,350% increase in the number of medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles in a one-year period, Police Chief William J. Bratton is calling for a moratorium on new facilities until strict rules can be adopted governing them.

In a report to the Police Commission, Bratton said he wants to ban existing dispensaries within 1,000 feet of schools, churches, parks and places designated exclusively for the care of children. He also advocates limiting their hours to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The establishments are allowed under a 1996 state ballot measure and a more recent state law making marijuana available to patients by prescription to relieve pain or nausea.

Bratton said the number of dispensaries increased from four in November 2005 to 98 a year later.

“This has fostered an increase in… crime problems and caused quality-of-life issues for families and communities, as evidenced by the 110 complaints received from neighbors, business owners and concerned citizens concerning these dispensaries,” Bratton’s report states.

The Police Commission will consider his recommendations today.

Our government has spent some forty years on the so called “War on drugs”. The figures I have read indicate that the amount of drugs coming in are higher than ever. Our politicians should stop this war now, and they would if they weren’t so worried about losing some votes

OK really i think its funny how the media and all these people portray the pot smoker..i mean really come on all these people only tell you one side of the story.first i think smoking weed is not a right its a privilege.second the police dea ect.. don’t tell you, that the real reason weed is not legal, is because of the drug companies.i mean think about it..who is gunna lose money…you cant trademark a herb or anything that grows naturally..drug companies will in fact they have alot to lose look at all the prescribed drugs that are on the market today and all the commercials……they see it as why not spend a couple of million to ensure that they will make hundreds of millions selling their products over the counter…and also think about this..medical testing has determined that you can not get lung cancer from smoking pot but you can get emphysema….now hold on for a sec…now the prescribed drugs: always have warnings and you may have to worry about an interaction with other prescriptions..and its like as soon as you start taking one you notice something is wrong or not right so what do they do give you more..and tell me if i am wrong but does this sound fimil…take —- and it will help you with —-, and take this and it will help you with —-,i have grown up around weed smokers my whole life and not one has overdosed….tell me how many people you know that have said that their prescription was too strong or were hospitalized due to prescription pills….also go and try to find how many deaths occur from weed smoking and compare that to anything else and i mean only dui that involves weed nothing else..you will be shocked to find out the number is small……. so really if you are looking at this, don’t believe what is feed to you by people, media ect… also think about this all the people who are in jail due to the war on drugs( marijuana) ,this makes me laugh..how much money will they people spend to put a person in jail for a plant..and its not a drug, even thou it is a mind altering substance…you can walk up to a marijuana plant and pick it and smoke it..it grows natural…now tell me what other (drugs) grow natural,a couple but really none ..you have to chemically alter it to get the substance/effect you want…and really for as much money as we the people pay to the gov, you would figure that they would be doing what we want them to do….yet they overturn our votes and throw out the decisions,, we as people make, and it would be one thing if it was just a couple of people but thousands of people in the state of California and others states, we want it to be legal…yet once again they tell us one thing and then a couple of people higher up in the judicial system do another…so look for your self … please…look for your self…dont follow the crowd because when everything goes down hill i see it as the followers are to blame…..the people who when asked about what they know about marijuana can only say (its bad) or something along those lines..you look like a fool…and i believe if it looks like a fool and acts like a fool…well it must be a fool….. if you have any comments feel free to ask…their is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid answers…. e-mail me at SandMan1658@yahoo.com…… another thing, ok really the dea knows how many people smoke….? yeah right …they get financed by the drug companies…you tell me….a drug company can kill hundreds in the name of science but one person can die from anything other substance than that and they spend thousands to tell everyone to take the spotlight off them selves….also marijuana leading to suicide..this really makes me laugh hard.. if you do want to commit suicide then smoke a joint tell me if you still want to..if you do, then you’re a one in a million case and should see a doctor….and maybe those pills can help

I think this has to be the funniest thing I have seen all year. James I really like and agree with what you say.
I myself grew up in northern california, out near shelter cove. And the amount of smokers, tokers, and growers is insane. I think its funny that people make so many assumptions about people who smoke.
I’ve been smoking pot off and on since I can remember. I can say I have never had a bad experience getting high. And my IQ hasn’t went down. I’m still brilliant as I always have been. Lol. I bike and run 5 to 10 miles a day, with noo problems.

Anywazy its just funny for me to see people trying to talk about something they don’t know. These are the people who have read all the magazines, watched dr.phil talk about it, and think their kids are going to start smoking pot and and go to prision, if they listen to **insert crappy rock band here(possibly icp too)**…. I could go on but I won’t. Just going to sit back and laugh.

u r right on the money. how many people r strung out on pain killers and other doctor drug dealers meds. pot makes normal citizens outlaws and if they get busted there in jail with murderers and real criminals. its very unjust , how many people do we know that smoke bud. too many to count. we should make it legal and control it like booze , how many people kill or get killed cause of a drunk.pot is no comparison . i have a dream that one day well not be criminals.

Weed should be grown any place anywhere! limited quantity yeah because some people don’t know how to handle a lot of things at times. DEA/POLICE smoke too! who are they kidding and their kids are probably the biggest smokers!!!! More money more fun! It is a plant not a drug! The ones whom cant profit from it are the ones who see it as a problem! Soon as someone else finds a new plant to dry and smoke up it will be a new problem! Government needs to stop producing guns! poeple killing people is a chain they wont let go and drugs is right under that chain! GO GREEN!!!!!!!!!!! Is that not what everyone is advertising in a happy commercial????

i would like to ask all the people who are against marijuana, why,why would you be against something you dont even no about because my assumption is none of you have ever tried it, it causes no harm to the people who use it and the people who are around it, infact more people die from alcohol and tobacco than marijuana, its nothing more than just a stress free moment the DEA and the government just put it into everyones brains that this is deadly drug which no person has ever O.D. on it before unless it was laced if you were to keep marijuana illegal than why dont we ban alcohol and tobacco

Politicians are 10 years behind the times when it comes to hemp use. People have been fighting for a long time against marijuana and pot prohibition with some movement going on now. Still too slow for those caught up in the jail system for possessing a little weed. Our freedoms have been trampled on by folks who know nothing about how beautiful cannabis can be for someones life, if one learns how to grow cannabis. Keep up the good work.

FREE THE WEED……..One day our worries will be over regarding law and money making organizations. It is my opinion that each and every day more people are either growing or buying and inevitably smoking cannabis. We all need to start a revolution. As you smart ones out there know, cannabis is a herb, therefore cannot be controlled by drug companies. It has nowhere near as many dangerous side effects as alcohol, chemically produced medicines etc…So here’s what I think………..LETS STAND TOGETHER PEOPLE AND FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHT TO NATURE AND HER BEAUTIFUL PLANTS THAT HELP US (AND OUR ANIMALS) TO HAVE A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE, ONE OF A MELLOW CHILLED OUT NATURE. WHO KNOWS, IT MAY EVEN HELP ON A MORE GLOBAL LEVEL WITH FIGHTING AND WARS. IF WE ALL SMOKED A SPLIFF EVERY DAY THE WORLD WOULD BE A FAR HAPPIER PLACE!

Now anyone can open a Medical Marijuana Dispensary anywhere in U.S. The only thing is you should know how to approach this business legally. People are making thousands of dollars in this business. http://www.openamedicalmarijuanastore.com is one such website featuring latest news, resources and legal information about the business.

I wish people would stop actin as if marijuana is a priority one drug that corrupts minds and cause utter chaos. No, this is a naturally grown plant. A naturally grown plant that brings in more money than the wheat, corn, and grain income put together! To think that all that money is going to drug lords and not the hard working tax payers thats the true crime.

Of coarse they want to crack down right at harvest time. better hurry and spend millions of the peoples money to fight what the majority wanted and passed into law in the first place. we need to be the the repuplic of california and tell the feds to back off. there is no problem here that local goverment cant take care of on its own. the feds need to worry about growers on federal lands in the national forest and areas like that and to keep the borders safe we dont want any of that bogus mexican weed making it across the border or cocaine ,meth, herion. etc. so let californias continue to lead the nation in advances of human rights. if they want to garden then let them garden the laws are there to protect these good folks. you cant have a liqour store on every corner the law of supply and demand will limit how many despencaries will make it and in what areas, mean while local cities collect monies for permitting and allow these businesses they know exactly how many and there locations they dont need a moritorium, they need the permit money and tax revenue. so if there are to many in a given area its the local goverments problem improper planning.” LET OUR PEOPLE GROW”
